About Us

The Long Island Planning Council (LIPC) is a non-profit civic organization that began over 30 years ago. Our goal is to preserve the environment and the quality of life on Long Island.

Accomplishments

Defeated the construction of a Cell Phone Tower in our community.

Fought for the creation of the Jones Beach Bike Path.

Supported the Nassau County no-smoking law.

Petitioned legislators on behalf of the STAR program.

A leader in the number of trees planted and saved in our community.

Triangle Park in Wantagh.

bullet

In conjunction with the Town of Hempstead, the LIPC dedicate a "Heroes Walk" memorial sign located on the western end of Park Avenue. This symbol honors the eleven Wantagh men and all the others who perished on 2001 September 11th.

Secured the charm and historical names of bridges on the Wantagh Parkway, the Parkway itself, and the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.

Co-pioneered the non-alcoholic club movement to offset the serious negative bar scene prevalent in Wantagh in the 1970's.

Wantagh, Long Island, (C) LI Dot 2001Over 2,200 acres of watershed areas on the south shore have been saved from development. This includes the Twin Lakes in Wantagh, a favorite fishing spot for many.

At times, the reach of the LIPC extends far beyond Long Island. After Hurricane Katrina, the LIPC coordinated the collection and shipment of vital supplies to the disaster victims.

Formation of Common Health, a committee dedicated to education programs on the dangers of pesticides and toxins in our yards, schools, homes and bodies.

Support of the Earth Day celebration, introducing families to environmentally positive organic choices.

Continue to encourage schools to end the use of harmful pesticides.
