This tragedy renewed public outcry for a guard rail between the Parkway and bike path to offer some protection for the pedestrians, cyclists and skaters that use the path year round. Gina Russo, a community activist, started a Facebook group "Guard Rail for Wantagh Parkway Bike Path" six months before the accident after taking her children to the bike path and seeing firsthand the potential danger. From the survey results, it is clear that many in the community share Gina's concern.
