Site for the proposed 158' Water Tower

Aqua New York, the company which provides water to the residents of Wantagh and Seaford, is proposing to build a new water tower on DeMott Avenue in Wantagh. The Town of Hempstead’s Zoning Board of Appeals was originally scheduled to hear Aqua’s application on 2011 June 29 and July 27. The hearing date for both applications is now scheduled for Wednesday, 2011 August 10, after initiatives by the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association to adjourn.

According to the board’s website, Aqua New York is proposing to erect a 158.66’ high gallon water tank on the northwest corner of DeMott Avenue and the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. Additionally, Aqua is also asking for a special exception permit to construct a chemical/electrical building and a water well building also at the corner of DeMott Avenue and the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway.

Jeanine Boiko, a resident who lives near the Aqua New York site, told The Citizen that residents were feeling put upon by all the proposed developments in Wantagh. “Between cell towers, proposed strip club and now a new proposed 150 foot water tower courtesy of Aqua New York – again in the middle of a residential area – many of us are finding it hard trying to remember why we moved to Wantagh. It’s like there is a giant bulls-eye on this community all of a sudden. What’s next? An airport landing strip? A nuclear plant?”
